Alex Maclean

I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and am based in Bishop Auckland.

I am a counselling therapist, eco therapist and yoga teacher. I particularly enjoy working outdoors with clients amongst nature which I believe has added benefits to the therapy process. I use an integrative approach to therapy and have increasingly integrated yoga, somatic movement, embodiment, breathwork and mindfulness into my work with clients. I have been working in the therapeutic field for over 15 years working with clients addressing a broad range of mental health difficulties. I have had experience working in secure settings such as psychiatric hospitals and prisons and also in community for the NHS, hospices, addiction services and charitable organizations.

I am fully qualified in Counselling and have been since 2015.

I work generally within the Person Centered Approach, though i do combine it with other models depending upon what you as a client may need.  I have worked with clients who have had a wide range of mental health difficulties and issues such as; Anxieties, depression, bereavements, alcohol and drug issues, mental health and everyday stressors to name a few.  I have also worked within schemes with the police such as Check Point.  I do face to face appointments and more recently voice/video calls appointments due to the current Covid crisis.

As a counsellor I continue to learn and grow within my field and provide a safe environment for my clients to explore within their sessions.
